Seton Hall University - Boland Hall Entrance Renovation
Client
Seton Hall University
Location
South Orange, New Jersey
Year Completed
2023
With a record number of undergraduate students crowding the 58-acre campus of Seton Hall University, under an aggressive schedule, Seton Hall University turned to SNS Architects & Engineers, PC to design a new entrance lobby at the front of Boland Hall.
SNS was guided by the University's request that the new lobby although state-of-the-art in its ability to act as a reception space with the security required by an academic setting should reflect the age, scale, and personality of the existing residence structure.
Taking the pathway leading up to the building's existing entrance, its axial form, and strong radial layout, SNS created a semi-circular entrance lobby to respect the existing entrance axis of the building, while also yielding to a radial layout of existing pathways.
The mostly glass facade allows for transparency, giving the entrance a welcoming look. While the compliant means of ingress and egress were carefully laid out, along with the upgrading of other life safety systems, the lobby was further detailed to complement the existing residence hall's 'art deco' facade.
